Symbol:
A symbol is a person, place, thing or event that stands both for itself and for something behold itself.
Allusion:
An indirect reference to a familiar figure, place or event that is known from literature, history, myth, religion or some other topic of knowledge.
Suspense:
Suspense is the build up of curiosity. The reader wants to know what happens next but the writer keeps adding more detail, to make the suspense work.
Irony:
A literary device that creates a discrepancy between what is said and what is meant or between expectations and reality.
Atmosphere/mood:
The overall impression of the story, how it makes the reader feel.
Dialogue:
A conversation between two or more people, it helps the author to create a more realistic story.
Characterization:
The process by which the author develops the personalities of characters in a story
Protagonist:
The main character of the story
Antagonist:
The character or force that opposes the main character of a story
Foreshadowing:
A hint given by an author about something that will happen or be reveled later in the story.
